Game Boy Audio Line Out Mod

May 24, 2013

There are two methods you can use for the audio line out mod. You can either use the existing headphone jack or run a separate jack.

Method 1 – Using the Existing Headphone Jack

This is the easier method and should only take a few minutes. The first thing you need to do is cut the existing audio wires to the headphone board as shown in the picture. Now just solder the left and right wires directly to the board. That’s it! Pretty easy stuff.

Method 2 – Running Audio to a Separate Jack

With this method you need to figure out what audio output you want to use. Some people prefer a 3.5mm jack, others may want two RCA jacks or a 1/4″ jack. Once you figure out the audio output you want, you will need to figure out where to mount it. I prefer the bottom of the Game Boy but you may want a different spot. Now it’s time to use a drill or a dremel to create the hole, solder the wires to the connector, and mount it to the Game Boy.

You can use shielded cable for both of these methods if you choose but since it’s such a short distance it shouldn’t matter.
