Simple Plastic Screen Buffing for Light Scuffs and Scratches

May 19, 2013

Here is a quick guide on how to buff out light scratches from certain screens. This does not work on everything unfortunately.

Things you will need:

Step 1: Clean the screen with alcohol.

Step 2: Apply a dot of PlastX to the microfiber cloth.

Step 3: Buff the screen in a circular motion while applying medium pressure. Don’t push too hard or you may damage the screen. Do this for about thirty seconds.

Step 4: Wipe away the PlastX. Repeat steps 2 and 3 if there are still noticeable light scuffs or scratches on the screen. Be patient, this may have to be done many times. Certain screen protectors (Game Gear) have paint on the outside that can be rubbed off if you are too aggressive with the buffing.

As I use this on various screens, I will update this post with my results.

Successful – Most of the scuffs/scratches are gone.

  • Sega Nomad

Limited Success – Works to a certain point, can still see many scratches.

  • Sega Game Gear
  • Sony PSP

No Success – No noticeable difference.

  • Original Game Boy
  • Original Game Boy Advance
